
Ragy Saro
He is currently the External Relations officer at United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) – The Regional Office for Arab States. Throughout the years he has worked with countries on promoting and implementing disaster risk reduction strategies and policies at regional, national and local levels. Ragy has contributed to several UN policy papers and publications and led several advocacy and awareness campaigns in the region including the “Making Cities Resilient” initiative with an aim to support sustainable urban development.
Throughout the implementation of the campaign, he has developed several capacity building modules and supported numerous Arab cities in developing their resilience action plans. In addition to the work on urban resilience, Ragy strengthened the engagement of stakeholders by building partnerships across the region with the civil society, youth, private sector, and academia.
Part of several global and regional working groups, Ragy contributed to the organization of 4 successful regional platforms for disaster risk reduction including recently the Africa-Arab Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction that hosted high level delegates from more than 60 countries. His academic background is in political Science, business administration, and sustainable development.
